Let's start with the obvious;

all the fairies have beards.

This does not mean they are male but neither does it mean they are female. If by some lucky chance, you come to have one residing in your home or indeed in your possession then and only then is the gender of your fairy determined. Your fairy is who you want or need them to be.

Before I go on and tell you more about the Bearded Fairies, I think I need to put their story in context and tell you a little bit about me and how they came about.

Each fairy comes to life from cuts of my carving knife, strokes of my paintbrush, clothes influenced by nature and a lot of imagination, contemplation. Each fairy is an inspired, unique, and individual piece of art.

A Bearded Fairy Promises to:

“Be a reminder to you to never lose sight of play. Make time for work but enjoy life and the things we do in our lives. Be creative, laugh, play, be cheeky and have no regrets”.

How are Bearded Fairies born?

So when those two words came to me I focussed my research on, how fairies are born which goes like this;

The first laughter of a newborn baby floats away on a gentle breeze to the fairies grotto. Here fairy dust is sprinkled on the laughter and a fairy is born.

In the case of the Bearded Fairies, their birth is complete when they take their wooden form.

There are 4 stages to the Bearded Fairies life cycle. Each of these stages can last as long as the fairy wants. Each stage comes with a different level of responsibility to themselves, each other and their environment. It is because of their view of life that they do not feel the need to rush to the next stage. At each stage, they lead a very joyful, creative and inspired life.

A fairy will decide when it is ready to enter into the next stage of its life. With support and advice from their elder, they gain consent from Devine Fairy then enter a cocoon. Transformation takes place over a period of 9 months.

My name is Claudette Atkinson, I live in Brighton, England, and I created the Bearded Fairies.

One evening in late October 2020 I was sitting at my little desk. Having made a batch a cards I said to my mother, “Mum, you’re up there, you know what I should be doing with my life. Tell me; what am I here for?”

Believe it or not I got a response.

In a voice very clear my mother said,

"Bearded Fairies."

I looked down at my now messy desk, said aloud the two words “Bearded Fairies”, and burst out laughing. I repeated those two words over and over again as my brain lit up with ideas one after another. I came alive with creativity and the Bearded Fairies story came alive with me.

Very quickly I outgrew that small desk area and made a work station along the back wall of my living room and this is where the Bearded Fairies story continues to unfold.
